This morning
dram is similar to the North American Egg
Nog. Any spirit can be used according to personal taste.
This version suggests rum, whisky or brandy. Brandy
is particularly recommended. Auld Man’s Milk is mentioned
by Sir Walter Scott in the novel Heart of Midlothian.
This is an excellent dram for a festive occasion and the
following ingredients make one and a half pints.
3 Eggs
1/4 Brandy
1 Pint Single Cream
1 Lemon (Zest) or Pinch of Nutmeg
2 ounces Castor Sugar
Whisk egg
yolks until thick and creamy, gradually add
sugar. Slowly pour in single cream followed by brandy. Stir
in whipped egg whites. Pour into jug or punchbowl.
Sprinkle on nutmeg or lemon zest. Give one last stir
before serving.
Note:
Store in fridge if not using immediately.
