The Whisky MenThe Whisky Men There is geographical diversity, reflecting the whisky heartlands of Speyside and Islay, as well as many other locations, and diversity, too, in the subjects who have participated in this project. Warehousemen, mashmen, stillmen, coopers, coppersmiths, excisemen, managers, owners and even the occasional illicit distiller give us a unique insight into what the whisky industry has been like to work in during the past half century or so, and how it has changed during that time. Their stories make fascinating reading, and also serve as an invaluable contribution to Scottish social and industrial history. The text is accompanied by a wide range of intriguing black and white photographs. Some are contemporary, but many are borrowed from the personal albums of the subjects themselves, and serve to reinforce the intimacy and sense of personality at the core of this book. Scottish WhiskyPeat, Smoke and Spirit: The Story of Islay and Its Whiskies Islay's fascinating story is uncovered: from its history and stories of the many shipwrecks which litter its shores, to the beautiful wildlife, landscape and topography of the island revealed through intimate descriptions of the austerely beautiful and remote countryside. Interleaved through these different narrative strands comes the story of the whiskies themselves, traced from a distant past of bothies and illegal stills to present-day legality and prosperity. The flavour of each spirit is analysed and the differences between them teased out, as are the stories of the notable men and women who have played such a integral part in their creation. The perfect adjunct to a glass of whisky on a dark, fire-lit evening.

The Island Whisky TrailThe Island Whisky Trail: Scotland's... This guide for the whisky enthusiast covers the distilleries of the Hebrides and the west coast of Scotland. Neil Wilson first visited these distilleries in 1984, aboard the ketch "Alystra" and wrote "Scotch and Water" as a result of his trip, delving into the history, development and the people who made the great whiskies of history. This book incorporates the original research from "Scotch and Water" and includes a great deal of new material.

The Angels' Share Malt Whisky Map of... Scotland. In full colour, with a black-and-white Victorian map on the reverse, this map gives a full view of the whisky-producing regions of Scotland. The Scotch Whisky DirectoryThe Scotch Whisky Directory In an earlier work, Appreciating Whisky, Phillip Hills introduced the novel if obvious idea that what matters about any liquor is that it tastes nice. He analysed the flavours, some of great subtlety, which are to be found in any good Scotch whisky and recruited some of the Scotch whisky industry's leading experts to judge some of the whiskies. In The Scotch Whisky Directory, he has devised a simple but original way of presenting and evaluating the flavour of a whisky by means of a simple graphic and star-rating system. He applies this to all of the more important Scotch whisky brands, blends and grain whiskies as well as malts, showing what flavours are to be found in each. Scottish Whisky.

Scotland's Malt Whisky Distilleries The author, responsible for marketing of the Famous Grouse for fifteen years, has been in a unique position to record the decline of the malt distillery and also to look at the remaining distilleries and explain why they survive today.
