John Spalding (1650) - Historian

He was an ecclesiastical lawyer attached to the church of St Machar in Aberdeen, Scotland. His History of the Troubles and Memorable Transactions of Scotland, an accurate and fair account of the events of Charles I's reign in Scotland, is memorable for Spalding's ability to incorporate original texts and documents into the body of his thesis and is considered to be one of the main source books for the period. It was edited for the Bannatyne Club by William Forbes Skene in 1829 and again in 1850 for the Spalding Club, the publishing society named for the book's author.
