Old Newton Mearns

Newton Mearns

Old Newton Mearns Old Newton Mearns. This varied selection of pictures illustrates many aspects of Newton Mearns that have now been lost for good, including the old village Main Street (which stood on the site of the modern shopping centre), Andersons garage, the Newton Inn and Hazelden print works. The authors have been able to draw upon excellent photographs taken by the late John Crawford and James Anderson, and have written informative captions to accompany them. Mearnskirk and Loganswell are included too.

Old Newton Mearns

Mearns Matters Old Newton Mearns. This collection of photographs, personal recollections and articles recalls the history of modern Newton Mearns. It traces the area's growth and development from village days, when Mearns consisted of the separate rural settlements of Mearnskirk and the 'Newton' - to the prosperous modern suburb of the twenty-first century. First published in 1987, this revised edition contains additional information and a new selection of pictures.
