Discoverer of paraffin

The successful inventor of a process of manufacturing paraffin from coal, ‘Paraffin’ Young became a rich man on the proceeds of his invention and business. He used his money to pay the debts on Livingstone’s African trips, and endowed a chair at his alma mater, Anderson’s College (now Strathclyde University)
