St Margaret

St Margaret
(c. 1046-1093)

Saint and Queen of Scots

Margaret, canonised in 1251, is the only Scottish royal saint. The English-born wife of Malcolm Ill, she had a great influence over her devoted husband, bringing anglicisation to court and church and ousting Gaelic. She was personally pious and cared especially for orphans. She died four days after her husband and eldest son were killed in battle.
